Magnolia Moon

Magnolia Moon was designed by Juliet Hawkins in 1980-1981 and was in production from 1982 to 1987. Juliet kept diaries of her time at Crown Lynn and in July 1980 she noted that she and fellow designer Ian McNee drove up to Titirangi where she photographed the magnolias somewhere around Titirangi village.

It was designed for the Aurora Range of stoneware when Crown Lynn was trying to break into the high end tableware market here and overseas. The stoneware range was short-lived for Crown Lynn as they were unable to produce consistent colour and density. The pattern was also produced on the Classique and Forma shapes.

There were actually two versions of the Magnolia Moon design - d.252 which is Juliet’s actual design and d.609 which is a version re-drawn after she had left and produced from 1984.
