Crown Lynn Egg Cups

“For decades thousands of young New Zealanders woke up on Easter Sunday to the sight of a Crown Lynn egg cup.”

Val Monk, Crown Lynn A New Zealand Icon, 2006

The first egg cups were made in the 1940s and were quite simple. Later on, the modelling became more complex with a wide variety of designs, from easter bunnies to an array of animals and even circus clowns. They were typically glazed in single colours. The egg cups were slipcast, and many were not marked, making them sometimes difficult to identify. At the time they were never very profitable as they were sold cheaply and sales were generally limited to the easter season.

There are many Crown Lynn eggcups still around, and certain shapes and colours have become very collectible.
