About this objectA chum, a tool used to hold a vessel while the outside is finished. The chum would be attached to a lathe for this purpose. The chum consists of a circular piece of wood shaped to the inside of the particular vessel. A circular metal fixing which covers the whole base, is attached with three screws. It has an hexagonal extension containing a circular threaded cavity. This would allow the chum to screw onto the lathe. Small hole through centre of wooden part.
