About this objectA chum, a tool used to hold a vessel while the outside is finished. The chum would be attached to a lathe for this purpose. The chum consists of a circular piece of wood shaped to the inside of the particular vessel. A circular metal fixing covers the whole end of the chum and is fixed with four screws. It has a square extension containing a circular threaded cavity. This would allow the chum to screw onto the lathe.
