Narvik Pattern

Narvik had its debut as an entrant into the first Crown Lynn design competition of 1959, Narvik has since become one of Crown Lynn’s most popular designs.

The 1959 competition was a response to growing New Zealand interest in modern shapes and designs. This competition aimed to inspire more New Zealand designers, giving them the opportunity to share their work, and a chance to win a prize of £610.  Narvik was submitted by Don Mills, and was awarded runner-up – the well-known Reflections pattern taking the top spot.

In 1963, Crown Lynn released the Cook & Serve range, developed by Harry Jones. This included the patterns: Vision, Blue Tango, Green Bamboo, and of course, Narvik. This range was designed to withstand the variety of temperatures found within the modern kitchen – the heat of the oven, the cool of the refrigerator, and everything in between.

The Cook & Serve range was specially treated to ensure its durability, and thus, plenty of Narvik has survived for us to enjoy today.
