Shape Catalogues
This Crown Lynn shape catalogue, titled 'Mould Museum Illustrations' was donated to the museum by Bruce Yallop. These catalogues were used as a reference by modellers when they started in the mould making department.
Bruce Yallop was a modeller at Crown Lynn Potteries between 1971 and 1989. He was Crown Lynn's last modeller before the company's closure. Bruce's Crown Lynn journey began as part of the company's cadetship programme, and was eventually trained in mould making by Tam Mitchell, one of Crown Lynn's master modellers.
Bruce also donated the modeller's bench we have on display at the Museum. Both Bruce and Tam Mitchell worked at this bench, creating some of Crown Lynn's most iconic shapes. When Crown Lynn closed, Bruce took the bench with him, and in total spent upwards of 30 years working at it.
After the company's closure, Bruce went on to work for Studio Ceramics.
One other version of this shape catalogue is held by Auckland Museum and had been owned by the mould maker Tam Mitchell.
