Studio Ceramics

In the 1980s Christine Harris and Malcolm Johnstone set up a new ceramics business in Ward St, New Lynn. Later on ex-Crown Lynn factory manager Chris Harvey joined the company and many of the Crown Lynn employees, equipment and shape moulds became a part of the new factory. Studio Ceramics became well known for distinctive colourful designs and iconic New Zealand souvenir ceramics.

In 2017 Te Toi Uku was donated a substantial collection from Studio Ceramics when they sadly closed. Slowly over time the museum has been cataloguing and processing these objects and archives. In 2024, this job was completed and our collection of Studio Ceramics is available to view through our online collections database.
